Prior to joining EmergeOrtho (formerly Triangle Orthopaedic Associates) in 2014, Dr. Lucas Romine, M.D. served as faculty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He performs general orthopedic procedures with sub-specialty expertise in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and is a member of the prestigious American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons.
Regarding his education, Dr. Romine played basketball in college on a full athletic scholarship and was named an Academic All-American. Subsequently, he graduated from medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center followed by residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery. In his career, he has achieved several awards and has presented orthopaedic research at national and international conferences, including the Chinese Orthopaedic Association Congress in Beijing and the European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Berlin, Germany. His research has been published in several peer-reviewed Orthopaedic journals.
Dr. Romine was selected for sub-specialty fellowship training in Shoulder & Elbow surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, which is consistently ranked the #1 hospital in the United States. There he gained advanced experience in modern, innovative surgical techniques for treatment of complex pathology involving both the shoulder and elbow. This includes arthroscopic and open, revision reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow, including reverse shoulder replacement. While in Baltimore, he also provided medical treatment for elite athletes as a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles. In addition to complex Shoulder and Elbow procedures, Dr. Romine regularly performs minimally invasive knee arthroscopy including ACL reconstruction and meniscus surgery, knee and hip replacement, and surgical care of broken bones and torn ligaments, amongst others.
Dr. Romine’s patients are often most impressed with his caring nature and attentive bedside manner. His compassion and empathy combined with knowledge of various non-operative treatment options make him a comprehensive expert in the musculoskeletal system. His professional philosophy is to treat every patient as a member of his own family.
Dr. Romine’s wife, Ashley, is a Raleigh native and an alumnus of UNC-Wilmington. Together they enjoy spending time with their children, staying fit and traveling abroad.
